Fertility

Acupuncture

Acupuncture enhances fertility by reducing stress, increasing blood flow to the reproductive organs and balancing the endocrine system, according to several studies and medical research. When enhancing fertility with acupuncture treatments, points are selected for their ability to regulate menstruation, build blood and energy in the body, thicken the lining of the uterus, warm or dispel heat from the uterus, relax the uterus and relieve stress.

One of the key ways acupuncture increases fertility is by reducing stress, which is often a key factor in the fertility of both men and women. When people are under stress, the hormone cortisol is released in the brain. This alters the brain’s neurochemical balance, thus changing hormone levels and disrupting the pituitary balance that is key to the reproductive cycle. Acupuncture treatments counter the effects of stress and cortisol by releasing endorphins in the brain.

Regular acupuncture treatments are recommended to start at least 3 months prior to conception. A typical menstrual cycle lasts about 25 – 31 days. But it actually takes about three months for an egg to mature. It is vital during this time to create healthy follicles and better egg quality, balance hormones and regulate your menstrual cycle, and help your body as a whole to be in the best possible condition for conception to occur. Acupuncture and Chinese herbs will help with blood flow to increase ovarian response and improve the endometrial lining, enhancing the chances of successful implantation.

Chiropractic

Chiropractic care for women wishing to enhance fertility is all about improving structure and nervous system functioning of the pelvis and body. The reproductive organs are controlled by nerve roots that come from spinal segments T11, T12, S2, S3, S4, hypogastric plexus and ovarian plexus. Specific chiropractic adjustments can enhance the function of the nerves exiting the adjacent spinal structures. Additionally, Dr. Lauren does a series of soft tissue release that further balances the biomechanics of the body. Some of this is taken from the well-known Webster technique designed to adjust women during their pregnancy. Dr. Lauren is certified in this technique.

In addition to bodywork, Dr. Lauren helps women uncover any food imbalances and vitamin/mineral deficiencies that may be causing inflammation in the body and decreasing the body’s ability to become pregnant. This is done through health history and lab work. Through food elimination and treatment with supplements and herbs, Dr. Lauren guides her patients to achieving optimum health and thus optimum fertility. Additionally, Dr. Lauren works directly with nutritionist, Ashley, to build the ideal meal plan for each patient and Hedy to make sure our treatments and herb supplementation is balanced and ideal for the patient.
